Three private villas and a lake hotel,
inside the Imperial Citadel of Huế

Inside the Citadel, no building may rise above the King’s own gates. Within them, we spent three years making a place where every object has a maker — and where each stay is looked after the way the great households of imperial Huế looked after their guests.
Three heritage houses, each with its own pool and garden. Book a room, a whole villa, or the entire estate.

A small hotel above a quiet Citadel lake: fifteen rooms and suites, calm and meditative, a short walk from the Imperial City.

Flowers, birds and beasts: three ascending realms of Huế mythology. Each house is a trove of decorative arts, and each has the same attentive service.
Every room looks over the water. Quiet, private and simply serviced, in the same Quản Gia spirit as the villas — with the Citadel’s lanes, cafés and monuments at the door.

“He who has not known Huế in the age of its emperors cannot know the true sweetness of life.”
« Qui n’a point vécu à Huế au temps des empereurs d’Annam ne sait pas ce qu’est la douceur de vivre. »
From the journal of a nineteenth-century European traveller
Your own Quản Gia — the senior woman of the great Huế households — and her team, present and anticipating. The concierge looks after everything beyond the gate.
The Quản Gia →
Chef Lê Vũ’s inventive Central Vietnamese cooking, with imperial roots: breakfast made to measure, a pool menu all day, private dinners in your villa.
The cuisine →Nhã Nhạc court music at your door, encounters with artisans and artists, and a collection of ancient and commissioned art throughout the houses.
Experiences → Art at Thiên Ý →“A rare gem of a place that you are only lucky enough to come across on very few occasions. Despite having travelled extensively around the world, Thiên Ý will easily be one of the most memorable stays we’ve ever had.”
Marjolein van Deth, LondonThe Villas suit families, friends and longer stays: a whole house with its own pool, garden and team, or a room within one. Thiên Ý Lake suits couples and shorter stays: a private room above the water, with daily housekeeping, at a lighter price. Both are inside the Citadel walls, and both are looked after in the same spirit.
Your villa is private, with its own pool and garden, screened by dense planting.
It sits in the Imperial Citadel's old aristocratic quarter. From the upper floor you can see across parts of the estate, where the villas and gardens form one architectural ensemble.
Our staff are always just a call away. If you prefer a more sociable moment, you are also welcome to visit the separate wooden staff house, next to a shared garden where guests from the other villas sometimes gather.
Very much so. Private villas, enclosed gardens, child-friendly salt-sanitised pools, pool slides, board games, outdoor play and attentive staff make Thiên Ý particularly well suited to families. Inflatables for the pool can also be set up on request.
Daily housekeeping is included, and breakfast in the suites; in the other rooms breakfast is cooked to order for 300,000 VND per person. Your room is private; bathrooms are semi-open, with a separate toilet. Quiet hours run from 22:00 to 07:00.
The central figure is the Quản Gia — a tradition of the great households of imperial Huế, where a senior woman of the house coordinated the domestic staff and ensured that guests wanted for nothing. At Thiên Ý, your Quản Gia and her team are close at hand: in the villa, around the pool, attentive to the rhythm of your day. She will often have thought of what you need before you ask. For outside requests — excursions, guides, transport — our concierge handles everything beyond the gate. The Quản Gia looks after the house; the concierge looks after the city.
For most guests, yes. The Imperial City, the royal temples and the Perfume River are a few minutes' walk away, but the neighbourhood itself is the bigger reason. People have lived inside these walls for two centuries: the lanes are quiet, the pace is slow, and the cafés and restaurants are full of locals. In the evening, music drifts from doorways. Street life that has almost disappeared from the rest of urban Vietnam survives here almost intact, and Thiên Ý is right in the middle of it.
Phú Bài International Airport is approximately 25 minutes by car. We arrange transfers on request.
